Beyond Four Walls: Part 2
The impact of spaces you design
Spaces around you impact your mood, productivity, and well-being. Repeating, “How spaces are designed affects how we feel and behave.”- by Ilse Crawford in the show Abstract
A well-designed and organized space can enhance creativity and focus, moreover, social spaces can affect your interactions and relationships.
I focus a lot on maintaining spaces around myself. While the home is a major part of it, it applies elsewhere too like your office desk. Here are a few tips that will help you make your spaces elevate and unique to you:
Ventilation: My mood depends a lot on how is the weather! Having a space with good ventilation and ample sunlight & airflow is a great mood lifter and helps with being connected to the environment. India has so many seasons, make them part of how you feel.
Layout: The layout of the space defines how you will use these spaces, the best way I found is to set up the space step-by-step while spending time there. You will know what you need and where.
Filled walls: This is one of the best hacks to make a place look filled, even if you have less furniture, fill the walls with paintings, posters, etc. It will instantly elevate the space.
Greenery: My plant-maintaining journey is not very great, one thing I learned is succulents flourish outdoors; seeing them on Pinterest as indoor decors is a myth:/ Also, lucky bamboo can grow bigger in soil. But the point is, one or two or 5 plants will never cut it, you need to have a few to feel plants around you. Also, if you are new to plant care, don’t start with done, start with at least 10. And the last, palms are the best, looks great, low maintenance.
Lighting: I realized it late, but lighting is a huge mood setter for me, I keep changing the lighting during a party to instill different vibes. We have twin-color lights (white and warm white) to set the theme of usage of the place. A lot of lamps in different corners of the house, it’s a play!
Personalization: I love earthy and traditional spaces, with textures; Amit loves colorful and vibrant spaces; the hybrid of it where our study and living hall are filled with pop, while bedrooms, dining, and some other corners are earthy creates a great balance. Also, we love playing board games, and the living room is filled with a lot of them. When we have friends and family over, most times it ends up being playing time :) I did the same for the office, just kept some card games on my desk, and it became a great sun-downer.
The best part is, people ask me, how I like stepping out for the office, and the answer is always, PEOPLE!
